La Marina, map, weather and guide to the Costa Blanca town of La Marina in the Alicante province of Spain.
La Marina - Costa Blanca - Spain
La Marina Costa Blanca:
Situated just south of the Santa Pola salt lakes on the Costa Blanca, Spain, you will find the urbanizations and town of La Marina. As you will notice on the La Marina map above, the town has two separate areas, the old coastal town (and beach area), and the newer urbanizations which lie on the inland side of the N-332.
The beaches of La Marina stretch for some distance and comprise fine white sand, the beaches are fairly wide, with plenty of room to settle down, as the Spanish people tend to gather around the restaurant areas, or close up to the sea.
If you are booking a holiday in La Marina (especially a self-catering property) it is likely that you will be somewhere within the urbanizations, which are some distance from the beach, meaning you will need to hire a car if you wish to visit the beach areas. However, many of the rental properties in La Marina are villas, a lot of which have their own private swimming pools, so you might not even need to go to the beach.
The area of salt lakes to the north of the town are actually a protected nature reserve, and are very popular with bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Known as the Salinas de Santa Pola (or more correctly the Parc Natural des Salines de Santa Pola), this area has a wide variety of birds, and especially noticeable are the flamingos, of which there are large numbers at certain times of the year.
Whilst in La Marina, you could take a trip to the salt lakes, although you will almost certainly see them at some point, as the N-332 coast road passes through them.
The old town of La Marina is a fairly unattractive, and typically Spanish town, with the usual range of shops, banks, cafes, bars and restaurants, not really worth a visit unless you need something specific or you are actually staying there. The urbanizations have most of the facilities and shopping opportunities that you are likely to need, there are also a number of supermarkets along the N-332.
I have mentioned the N-332 several times, so I will mention it again, in that this is the road by which you will access La Marina, both the old town and the urbanizations, unless you are coming from the direction of San Fulgencio, in which case you will use the CV-860. La Marina is between Guardamar del Segura and Santa Pola.
La Marina Weather: As you would expect, the weather in La Marina is typical of the area, plenty of sunshine (around 2,800 per year) and generally around 300 sunny days each year.
I am not aware of any hotels in La Marina, and if you are visiting or taking your holidays in the area, you will most likely book a self-catering villa or apartment, we often list a selection of possible properties lower down this page. You may also be able to find a bed and breakfast in La Marina, though I don't know of any at this moment.
The closest airport for La Marina is Alicante, which is actually located in El Altet about 11 kilometres from Alicante city.
